What is a mindset and why does mindset seem like such an abstract concept?
The Oxford English Dictionary defines mindset as “an established set of attitudes held by someone.”
Webster’s says that mindset is “the ideas and attitudes with which a person approaches a situation, especially when these are seen as being difficult to alter.”
That isn’t much help, is it?
Mindset seems obtuse for very GOOD reason.
We aren’t taught to ever really THINK about mindset.
We are taught to only follow rules.
Your whole ENTIRE life is based on following rules, on being a slave, on NOT actually thinking for yourself.
You were told in school that you were good or bad based on your grades.
Your parents said that YOU were good or bad based on whether you obeyed them, even if they were idiots and full of total crap.
Society said you were good or bad based on how well you conformed to its expectations.
“Holy men” said that you were good or bad based on whether you obeyed rules that they themselves refused to actually follow.
Mindset is MUCH different.
Mindset is a choice about how YOU actually view reality.
What is the difference between a scarcity and abundance mentality?
The cause of anxiety and panic and MANY misunderstandings between people can be explained by a KEY difference in mindset – that of abundance and that of scarcity.
A man with an abundance mentality believes, “I have enough,” and, “I am enough.”
He looks at the value of relationships rather than the actual costs.
The person with a scarcity mentality is always obsessed with counting nickels and dimes.
Neither approach is REALLY superior.
Yet it’s important to KNOW what your mindset actually is.
A person with a scarcity mindset thinks of what things will cost.
A person with an abundance mindset thinks of what he will attract.
Having a scarcity / abundance mindset doesn’t make the person good or bad.
People are simply different.
An abundance mindset does NOT mean you should be extremely frivolous with money.
Wasting money is absolutely foolish, but money spent in the endeavor of making even MORE money is extremely wise.
A man with an abundance mentality focuses less on what something costs and MORE about the value that it will inevitably bring.
If your first thought is how much something costs, you might have a scarcity mentality.
This scarcity mentality likely translates into literally all other areas of your life.
You are enough and you ALREADY have enough.
That doesn’t mean you can’t want more or shouldn’t seek to find more.
But if you don’t THINK that you ALREADY have enough and are enough TODAY, when will you?
Will you have enough when you have $10 million?
If you have a scarcity mindset, I can guarantee that you won’t.
I have been the guest of MANY different billionaires.
You can be filthy rich yet not FEEL like you have enough.
Will you FEEL like you are enough after you’ve slept with 100 women or received 100 gold stars?
If you have a scarcity mindset, I promise that you won’t ever feel fulfilled.
You are enough and you ALREADY have enough.
Adopt an abundance mentality and soon you will have more money, more friends, and more relationships than you can ever handle.
Remember that like attracts like.
If you are abundant, then you will attract other abundant people.
If you adopt a mindset of scarcity, then you will attract other like-minded people.
Who would you rather join forces with – self-possessed men with long-term vision and grand plans, or people who believe the world might actually end tomorrow?
You are enough and you ALREADY have enough.
Be abundant.
