“Let’s roll out bro! Will be a great time, meet some sexy girls and start the week off with some fun.”
My buddy rattled on and on over the phone as I was trying to do some work at home.
His invite didn’t fall on deaf ears.
There is a sexy Sunday night party here in Los Angeles that’s not only known for having one of the best ratios of women to men, and when I say ‘women’ I mean 6′ models with never-ending legs and Colgate smiles, but also being a bad-ass party.
“No can do man.”
He didn’t like my response, but I’ll let you in on a little secret:
Sunday doesn’t = ‘Funday’.
Sunday for me equals sleep in a bit to recover from the previous night’s debaucherous activities, have a late lunch, chill out for a couple of hours, then prep for the week.
“But Elijah, it’s SUNDAY! I want to relax and enjoy my time off before starting back on the 9-5 grind on Monday!”
Hell, I can understand you wanting to take some time to chill out for a bit and it’s healthy so that your body and mind can recover.
Where this turns into an issue is when you take the whole day and waste it watching 12 hours of Netflix and dreading Monday the whole ENTIRE time.
That is NEVER a formula for success.
Here’s the deal: if you’re not financially independent yet, then you need to be working everyday.
Now that doesn’t mean that you work 15 hour days everyday, but Saturday and Sunday you should STILL get some work done.
What that does is keep your momentum up and helps you stay on course.
It also helps you develop an incredible work ethic that your goals come FIRST no matter what.
If your vision is strong enough… you will have no problem committing and keeping a schedule like that.
The irony is once you’re financially independent, that work ethic will have become ingrained in you and you will still commit to bettering yourself every single day.
Every uber-successful man I know has an incredible work ethic.
That doesn’t mean that they’re workaholics, but instead that they take even a couple hours a day and focus their energy into a project that they are currently working on.
This post is going out on a Sunday on purpose.
Once you read this post, turn off the TV, tell your friends to go home and prep for the week.
Make a list of EVERYTHING you need to get done this week starting with the most important stuff.
Then breakdown what day you’re going to complete each task on the list.
Then make your Monday list.
This doesn’t have to take hours.
Hell, even ONE hour of focused work making a plan for the week will save your hours of wasted time throughout the week trying to figure out what you need to get done.
I can promise you that when you wake up early tomorrow morning on Monday you will be more energized and will hit the ground running because you have a plan and know the steps to actually complete it.
Remember, those who fail to plan, plan to fail.
Get serious about getting your momentum up, starting your week strong and make Sunday into a partial ‘work’ day.
It will make all the difference in the world this week.
Have a great week gents, I know I will, because I’m making my plan.
Now off to do that!
Until next time.
Your man,
-Elijah “The Realist”
